Rays of sunlight create a mesmerizing glow that illuminates Yosemite National Park in California. Spectacular autumn colors decorate the trees, enhanced by the morning’s soft light. As we shift from busier seasons into quieter ones for most of the national parks, take a minute to reflect. Winter is coming, and it’s sure to be its very own incredible adventure. Seasons may shift, but the resonating beauty offered at Yosemite continues to ignite the imagination and hearts of many. Photo by Menchor Cuizon (www.sharetheexperience.org).

Literal #ThrowbackThursday! While energetically wrestling, these prairie dogs at Badlands National Park in South Dakota resemble fierce ninjas. Photographer John LaMere captured this action shot shortly after one prairie dog pushed the other hard enough to catch air. Fun fact about these social animals? A prairie dog family unit, known as a coterie, works together cooperatively by raising young, building expansive burrows, grooming, playing and defending their territory. Carry on, ninja prairie dogs. Photo by John LaMere (www.sharetheexperience.org).

This spring promises to be a good season for wildflowers with ample rain and mountain snowfall across most of the west. The bloom is already starting in Southern California and Arizona and will begin moving northward and higher in elevation as spring progresses. These pink sand verbena are currently carpeting sections of Mecca Hills Wilderness near Palm Springs, California. Wildflower blooms can be very site-specific and short-lived in any particular location. A delicate resource, please remember to take only pictures and don’t trample the plants.
