The silence of Yosemite National Park, #California in winter is an unforgettable experience. The low water flow in rivers creates perfect opportunities for visitors to sit and reflect on the beauty of the park. Photo of courtesy Dené Miles.
For a short time in February – if the conditions are perfect – Horsetail Fall at Yosemite National Park in #California glows red and orange and looks like lava falling down the side of El Capitan. Visitors flock to the park every year to see this phenomenon, which happens when sunset hits the waterfall at just the right angle, illuminating the water and mist in brilliant orange light. If you have a chance to witness #Yosemite’s Firefall, remember to go slow, plan ahead, mask up and share the amazing views. Photo of 2019 #Firefall courtesy of Daniel Berson.

The heart of Yosemite National Park in California is a beautiful valley ringed with waterfalls and tall granite walls. In our minds, we picture it as a pristine wonderland, but people have been making their homes in Yosemite for millennia. The Miwok people lived in harmony with the land for nearly 4,000 years, until campaigns of forced removal began in 1851. The last village was dismantled in 1969. Some descendants of Yosemite’s native people live nearby, while others are scattered throughout the world. Reconstructed bark homes and a ceremonial roundhouse help tell their story in the park.

Like pulling the veil off the face of the love of your life, the fog lifts and reveals the unparalleled beauty of Yosemite National Park in California. On this day in 1864, President Abraham Lincoln signed a law setting aside Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove as protected lands. Overshadowed by the Civil War, this news received little attention, but it set a significant precedent - places of scenic and natural importance should be protected for the enjoyment of all people. There are just some sights you’ll never forget. For a short time in February – if the conditions are perfect – Horsetail Fall at Yosemite National Park in California looks like lava falling down the side of El Capitan. Visitors flock to the park every year to see this phenomenon, which happens when sunset hits the waterfall at just the right angle, illuminating the water and mist in brilliant orange light. It’s a spectacular experience reminiscent of Yosemite’s historic Firefall. Photo from last year courtesy of Mark Bouldoukian.
Rays of sunlight create a mesmerizing glow that illuminates Yosemite National Park in California. Spectacular autumn colors decorate the trees, enhanced by the morning’s soft light. As we shift from busier seasons into quieter ones for most of the national parks, take a minute to reflect. Winter is coming, and it’s sure to be its very own incredible adventure. Seasons may shift, but the resonating beauty offered at Yosemite continues to ignite the imagination and hearts of many. Photo by Menchor Cuizon (www.sharetheexperience.org).
Happy Birthday to Yosemite National Park! On this day in 1890, Yosemite became our 3rd national park. This spectacular landscape was first protected with the Yosemite Grant Act in 1864, which set aside 39,000 acres of Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove to the State of California. When President Abraham Lincoln signed that legislation, it was the first time in U.S. history that land was designated for public use and preservation. For more than a century, millions of people have been inspired by this special place. Photo by National Park Service.
For waterfall lovers, there’s no better place than Yosemite National Park in California. The roar of the water, the feel of the mist and a glimpse of a rainbow give us a thrill and a sense of romance. The 317-foot tall Vernal Fall is a popular destination in the park, with views from the Mist Trail and the John Muir Trail. Please use caution when hiking. The trails are steep and slippery. A safe visit is a fun visit. Photo courtesy of Mark Bouldoukian.
The waterfalls and granite cliffs provide endless wonder at Yosemite National Park in California. With scenery sculpted by glaciers carving and smoothing the mountains, Yosemite’s waterfalls flow over the rock cliffs making a moonbow or “lunar rainbow” possible. In the spring and early summer, if the sky is clear and the moon is full, it can produce enough light to create a rainbow from a waterfall’s mist. Just another reason why Yosemite is a magical place.
